We have the
honour to introduce you the 17th Bodrum Cup International Wooden
Yacht Regatta. The organization will take place between 15 – 20
October 2005 for the 17th time, under organization of Era Bodrum
Sailing Club, Turkish Sailing Federation, Mediterranean Sailing
Union and by the support of Turkish Consulate in Rhodes,
Municipalities of Kalymnos and Bodrum and marinas of neighbouring
harbours.The primary intention is to promote interest and skill in
sailing among the captains and crews of Bodrum's charter fleet. It
is also a celebration of the ending of each year's cruising season,
a means to bring together in a friendly encounter charter yachts
that normally cruise on their own. This is a fun event now entering
its 17th year, held every third week in October.
Another purpose is to extend the cruising season, since passengers
are welcome, to participate aboard competing yachts.
The Bodrum Cup takes place in official annual program of Turkish
Sailing Federation and Mediterranean Sailing Union (MSU). Every year,
around 100 yachts 10 % of which are of foreign flags participate in
The Bodrum Cup. Also, many yachts host foreign individuals from
mostly European Union countries as charterers, around 1/3 of the
whole community is composed of foreign participants and also foreign
press members. Around a total of 1000 participants take place in the
organization.
Race participants apply in mainly 3 classes, divided by sub-categories:
A) Traditional wooden sailing yachts: Wooden yachts of traditional
design of heavy displacement built with solid-planking-on-frames and
intended primarily for cruising purposes.
B) Classic wooden yachts: In general yachts known as classic in
international terminology (for example: Colin Archer, Swan etc.)
C) Guest yachts: All yachts of non-wooden construction that wish to
participate in the regatta.
The highest award is the BODRUM CUP, presented to the yacht with the
least penalty points among all yachts competing in all the
categories of the traditional yacht classification.
The Bodrum Cup Regatta Pennant is awarded to the winner of the
Bodrum Cup. The yacht winning the Bodrum Cup three times is awarded
the permanent possession of the pennant.
Further to these prizes there are category awards, first finish
prizes and prizes awarded by municipalities involved.
